The Wake Forest School of Medicine is seeking a Chair to lead a new Department of Implementation Science. The new Department will join three other departments within the Division of Public Health Sciences (Biostatistical Sciences; Epidemiology & Prevention; Social Sciences & Health Policy) in the School of Medicine. The School of Medicine is part of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, a fully integrated system comprising clinical, research and teaching missions. This structure provides a significant opportunity for faculty in the Department of Implementation Science to support Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in evolving as a learning healthcare system.
The Chair will recruit and lead a multidisciplinary team of faculty and staff who have an intellectual curiosity about how to implement best and promising care models and practices within health systems. Department faculty and staff will work closely with the Center for Health Care Innovation, whose mission is to bridge the research and clinical enterprises to ensure that patient care is driven by quality performance and efficiency. In addition, faculty and staff will interact with a number of existing programs conducting clinical and translational research, including the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (funded by a CTSA award), the Sticht Center for Healthy Aging and Alzheimer’s Prevention, Cardiovascular Sciences Center, Center on Diabetes Obesity and Metabolism, Center for Research on Substance Use and Addiction, Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Institute for Regenerative Medicine.
The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree (MD and/or PhD), will be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor (or equivalent), and will have an active research portfolio. He/she will be recognized nationally for excellence in research in implementation science, and in education, mentoring and administrative leadership. He/she will be responsible for developing the strategic vision of the department in consultation with relevant stakeholders, for faculty recruitment, and for the success of its research mission. Clinician investigators are particularly encouraged to apply. Areas of expertise that are likely to be represented in the department include health economics, health services research, comparative effectiveness research, organizational psychology/systems analysis, quality improvement, and evaluation.
