The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center is recruiting a full-time behavioral scientist at the Assistant/Associate/Full Member level (equivalent to Assistant/Associate/Full Professor). The ideal candidate will have expertise in behavioral aspects of dissemination and implementation research and interest in applying those skills to the area of cancer care delivery research. The position is based at the Hutchinson Institute for Cancer Outcomes Research (HICOR), housed in the Cancer Prevention Program within the Public Health Sciences Division of Fred Hutch. HICOR faculty conduct retrospective and prospective research in comparative effectiveness, cost-effectiveness, quality of care, health care delivery, health outcomes, and health policy related to early detection and treatment of cancer. HICOR is seeking to add a behavioral scientist to both collaborate and lead in designing, testing, disseminating, and implementing interventions to change health behavior in clinical and organizational settings. As part of the larger Cancer Prevention Program, HICOR faculty regularly team up with behavioral scientists, epidemiologists and statisticians in program. The successful candidate will have access to mentoring by senior faculty with broad expertise in the program and the division more broadly.
Relevant training and experience can come from a number of disciplines—examples include psychology, sociology, decision sciences, behavioral economics, organizational behavior, implementation science, or other related disciplines. Experience with testing behavior change interventions within healthcare settings, including technology-delivered interventions, would be especially welcomed. Candidates should have advanced training with a PhD or equivalent degree as well as postdoctoral research experience.
Assistant Member candidates should have an emerging record of professional achievement, including peer-reviewed publications, presentations of scientific rigor and relevance to behavioral sciences. Those with demonstrated ability to obtain peer-reviewed grant funding will be given highest priority. Associate and Full Member candidates must also have an active, externally-funded research portfolio. Candidates with a track record of conducting innovative, interdisciplinary and collaborative research are preferred.
Fred Hutch is home to three Nobel laureates and offers a world-class scientific environment with numerous opportunities to collaborate with research oncologists, behavioral scientists, biostatisticians, epidemiologists, and allied prevention research scientists as well as opportunities to mentor post-doctoral trainees. The Division of Public Health Sciences houses the nation’s first and largest cancer prevention research program. Facilities include a 15-acre state-of-art research campus in the South Lake Union area of Seattle, and offices dedicated for the successful candidate and support staff. Research start-up funding and dedicated project and grants administration support will be provided. An affiliate faculty appointment in the appropriate department at the University of Washington is negotiable.
