Implementation Specialist (1): The Implementation Specialist serves as a project area leader on funded implementation science project(s) at the Frank Porter Graham (FPG) Child Development Institute at UNC-Chapel Hill. This Implementation Specialist position is focused on the implementation and scale-up of communications, media, and messaging campaigns designed to:
(1) provide normative information about:
a. child, parent, family, and community health and wellbeing issues, and
b. typical issues related to the implementation and scale-up of evidence-based prevention and wellbeing strategies;
(2) increase the awareness, reach, and accessibility of knowledge about:
a. evidence-based child, parent, family, and community prevention and wellbeing strategies, and
b. implementation science and best practices;
(3) destigmatize the need for support to learn and apply:
a. evidence-based prevention and wellbeing strategies, and
b. implementation science and best practices;
(4) model via media and communications products:
a. evidence-based prevention and wellbeing strategies, and
b. program implementation and scaling best practices;
(5) leverage social and professional networks to:
a. accelerate community-wide communications and messaging efforts,
b. facilitate access to effective child, family, or community support, and
c. facilitate access to effective implementation support.
As such, the Implementation Specialist:
(1) delivers direct implementation support to community prevention coalitions and statewide intermediary organizations to support the development of capacity and best practices for the community-wide scale-up effective communications, media, and messaging activities regarding positive parenting; other evidence-based child, youth, and family practices; and implementation science and best practices;
(2) assists with the development of messaging, communications, media, and social network analysis tools, measures, and other resources that may be useful to community and state partners; and
(3) engages in implementation research and evaluation as related to communications, media, and messaging activities and social network analysis.
The position will join The Impact Center at FPG. The mission of The Impact Center at FPG is to catalyze social impact by
(1) developing sustained capacity to use and optimize evidence-based prevention and well-being strategies and
(2) contributing to implementation science and research.
The Impact Center at FPG is a workgroup at FPG that includes implementation specialists, evaluation and improvement specialists, research scientists, and learning design specialists focused on the implementation and scale-up of evidence-based prevention strategies at population and system-wide levels. Guided by this workgroup’s theoretically- and empirically-derived model of core practice components, implementation support is delivered primarily to leaders and teams within community organizations and coalitions. The initial projects which this position will support involve close collaboration with state agency and funding partners in North Carolina and South Carolina.
In addition to membership in The Impact Center at FPG, the position is also expected to be a member of the community of FPG Investigators. Expectations include productivity in implementation science and research; the development of implementation support resources; guiding systems policies and practices at state, regional, and national levels; engagement in institutional and professional service in areas of relevance to FPG’s mission; and evaluation of professional performance.
Educational Requirements: Preference for a Ph.D. in Public Health, Communications, Prevention Science, Implementation Science, or closely related fields of study. Training in the design, implementation, and sustainment of public health communications, mass media campaigns, and research-to-practice translation activities is especially encouraged. In exceptional cases, a Masters in Public Health, Communications, Prevention Science, or Implementation Science and seven to ten years of relevant experience will be considered.
