Director of The Office of Professional Development and Continuing Education, Center of Alcohol Studies, Rutgers University

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a director for the Office of Professional Development and Continuing Education for the Center of Alcohol Studies, housed in The Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP). The director is a member of CAS and GSAPP’s Senior Management Team, along with the Dean, Director and Department Chairs and is responsible for the administration and programs of the Education and Training Division.

Reporting directly to the Dean and the Director of CAS, the Director of the Office of Professional Development and Continuing Education’s primary responsibilities include developing long-term strategic plans for the Office, including: securing contracts and grant funding; overall management of administrative staff and division finances; and creating new training initiatives. The Director will provide support and effective leadership across all continuing education training programs, projects and activities, including management of staff duties; setting work priorities; completion of time sensitive deadlines; and initiating and promoting new ideas/materials to enhance existing and developing projects. The Director will oversee the development of new curricula and programs, and will design a web-based distance learning platform suitable for a range of educational consumers and program goals. A background in dissemination and implementation science will be helpful, as part of the mission of the Director will be to start an evaluation program to study the delivery of trainings that facilitate adoption of evidence based practices in the community.

The Center of Alcohol Studies (CAS) is a multidisciplinary research and training institute located on the Busch Campus of Rutgers University, which performs clinical and biomedical research on alcohol and substance use disorders. The center originated at Yale University before it moved to Rutgers in 1962. The CAS serves as a home to clinical and biomedical researchers and clinical practitioners across Rutgers University schools and programs, as well as an illustrious group of affiliated scientists outside of the university.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Requires a Ph.D. in social sciences, education or a related field and three years prior experience administering continuing education programs, or a Master’s-level degree in these areas with at least 5 years relevant experience
  • Requires experience with hybrid and distance learning approaches
  • Ability to write proposals and secure federal, state, and private foundation grants; develop innovative and entrepreneurial avenues for new continuing education programs
  • Experience with addiction related programs would be a plus
  • Preferred for candidate to have current New Jersey partnerships and connections to facilitate program and contract development
